Description: What is The National Institute for Sea Training ? The Institute provides the students with on-board education and training on our training ship fleet which consists of two sailing ships, Nippon Maru and Kaiwo Maru, one turbine engine ship, Taisei Maru, two diesel engine ships, Ginga maru and Seiun Maru. On-board education and training is offered to the students from the University of Mercantile Marine, College of Maritime Technology, Maritime Technical College, School for Seafares Training, who aim to come to be ship's master or chief engineer of passenger ship, tanker, ferry, etc.. We offer a training to 1,600 students per year approximately. The total number of students in 58 years from 1943 to 2001 amounts to 123,300. A purpose of a training is to cultivate in the students in adaptability, discipline, a sense of responsibility, determination, endurance, spirit of cooperation and international mindedness that are indispensable elements for ship's officer. On the other hand, from Dec. 1997, We do provide the foreign participants of ODA Seafarer's Training Scheme with 3 month's on-board training.
